  • To increase women’s participation in strategic decision making within the industry

  • Improve the reputation of the finance industry within society at large

The participants - per group

  • Up to 20 female talents and 20 agents for change (established leaders, both male and female)
  • Talent: Women who are dedicated to taking on leadership positions with a clear understanding of business and strategy and are adaptable to learning and change.

About the programme

  • FUTURA is a relations and networking programme for leaders in the member firms of: Finance Norway(FNO), FA (Norwegian Employers’ Association for the Financial Sector), as well as members of the Finansforbundet (The Finance Sector Union of Norway)
  • The programme fee is paid by the participating firms
  • The programme directors are Ms Anne Grethe Solberg and Mr Tom O. Kleppestø

Content

  • 12 meetings per group within 1 year, i.e. monthly meetings, each for 1-2 hours
  • 4 academic modules for a total period of 7 days (mainly for the talents)
  • Various network and alumni meetings
  • Project thesis related to the company’s strategy within select topics: Strategy,
  • Reputation, Innovation and Knowledge, and Management of Gender Diversity

Learning methods

  • A talent and an agent are matched based on selected criteria. Both parties enter into an agreement describing the frequency of meetings and a method for measuring progress. Each party is responsible for developing themselves by the end of the programme.
  • Throughout the programme, the couples are coached by the academic director, Ms. Solberg
  • Topics for the academic modules are: 1: ”Learning” (1 day); 2: ”Communication and reputation” (2 days); 3: ”Strategic thinking” (3 days in London); and 4: ”Culture” (1 day)

Towards a better gender balance

The efforts to improve the gender balance in the financial industry are beginning to bear fruit. Over the past five years the proportion of women managers has increased from 36 per cent to 42 per cent.

The Glass Hammer: The value of networking

While visiting Norway last month, it became obvious that the country’s push for gender equality is about more than regulation, like quotas or parental leave legislation. In fact, various organizations outside the government work hard, with both women and men, to improve gender parity.

For example, in order to better prepare women for leadership positions in the financial services, one organization, Futura, has created a unique networking-mentoring program to guide women as they build their leadership skills.
